Ilham Ahmed: Kurdish unity to reinforce Syrian national cohesion

Within the series of visits and meetings carried out by the Head of the Executive Board of the Syrian Democratic Council, Ilham Ahmed, in the cities of northern and eastern Syria with the aim of explaining the latest political, social and economic developments for the people, she visited today Kobane city and discussed with dozens of people, administrators and a number of political figures.

The dialogue included several aspects, including the status of the Kurdish unity, the Syrian national cohesion, the Syrian economic situation, and a number of other topics such as the demographic change that Russia and Turkey wanted to make.

This meeting was held in the hall of Baqi Khedu Center for Culture and Art in Kobane.

What about the unity of the Kurdish rank and the Syrian national cohesion?

In this context, Ilham Ahmed said about the unity of the Kurdish rank: "It is the basis of any future step, so we must focus on it, move forward in this field and search for solutions that bring together the Kurdish parties."

She added: "There are many steps that are being taken regarding the Kurdish unity, and we are working on convergence of views. It has made great progress through the meetings that took place among the party sides."

Explaining the political situation, Ilham stressed: "The primary role that is considered to be the fruit of victory is your resistance (i.e. the people) and your insistence on moving forward in achieving victory and developing your administration."

In her speech, Ilham noted: "The Syrian national cohesion is linked to the unity of the Kurdish rank, and it is one of the priorities that must be focused on also after achieving the Kurdish unity. Moreover, we must focus on those who want to stir sectarian strife among the peoples whose children’s blood mixed in liberating these areas from ISIS’ terrorism."

Where does the dialogue between the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian government head?

In the context of her speech, Ilham Ahmed indicated: "The Syrian regime continues its intellectual stagnation, and this has caused many crises, the most prominent of which is what we are witnessing; the deterioration of the Syrian economy."

Regarding the dialogue with the Syrian government, Ilham said: "The dialogue with the regime will not be completed as long as the Syrian regime has the mentality that there are no Kurds in Syria. This is what we and reality will not accept."

She also referred to the prominent role of the dialogue between the Syrian government and the Autonomous Administration in preventing the deterioration of the Syrian economy and protecting the entire region from tragedies that may not be praised.

 She added: "The Autonomous Administration is now looking for a set of solutions, among them opening the commercial markets with Iraq, in addition to studying the living conditions that the people of northern and eastern Syria are going through. We are trying in various ways to protect the region from the effects of the Caesar Law that will be imposed on the Syrian government, and this law primarily targets the regime, and it prevents funding the regime with several basic articles. It is a law that prohibits the killing of the Syrian people in its accurate sense."

The resistance against the demographic change in Afrin

Ilham Ahmed spoke of the resistance of Afrin: "The people of Afrin must be supported at all levels, and the demographic change that is being practiced in Afrin must be prevented. There are thousands of Kurds inside Afrin who are being deliberately persecuted to leave their homes and lands."

She added: "The Turkish occupation is now seeking to get rid of the mercenaries in Afrin, and find alternatives for them. This will cost the Turkish government more losses, and it is unable to do so because of the internal situation, and its war in Idlib and Libya, in addition to the crisis it is experiencing due to the Corona pandemic."

Ilham also noted: "The mercenaries are committing the most heinous crimes against the people of Afrin city, which amount to more than war crimes, especially what has appeared recently on social networking sites from videos showing a group of women inside the mercenaries’ prisons."

She added: "The Turkish occupation is now trying to get rid of these factions because of the differences that appear from time to time, and it has already sent a large number of them to Libya; to the inevitable death."

At the end of her conversation and during the discussion with the audience, she said: "We are very open to criticism, and our administration is among the most capable of accepting criticism and self-change in response to the aspirations and requirements of the people."

Furthermore, the discussion continued between the Head of the Executive Board of the Syrian Democratic Council Ilham Ahmed and the audience on many other issues.
