Washington gives Assad a choice between political solution or more sanctions and isolation

The American administration sent a message to the Assad government through the American embassy in Damascus, regarding the need to take steps to implement a political solution or face more sanctions and isolation.

"The only exit strategy available to the Syrian regime is Security Council Resolution 2254. The Syrian regime must take irreversible steps to implement a political solution to the Syrian conflict that respects the rights and will of the people or faces more sanctions and isolation," said the tweets, posted by the embassy account on Twitter.

And the embassy continued, "As Ambassador Jeffrey said again and again, Bashar Al-Assad and his regime are directly responsible for the economic collapse in Syria."

The embassy added: "The Assad regime wastes tens of millions of dollars every month to fund an unnecessary war against the Syrian people, instead of providing for their basic needs."

And the embassy concluded: "The United States will continue to impose sanctions and increase economic pressure on the Assad regime until any progress is made in the political process, including a ceasefire."
