59 citizens killed by ISIS attack in northeastern Nigeria

The leader of a local anti-extremist group, Babiker Kulo, told France Press that ISIS gunmen attacked the village of Filo, which is inhabited by livestock keepers in Gubbio district, Borno State, which resulted in the death of 59 people among its residents, in a result confirmed by another leader of the same group and a local official.

According to Kolo, "59 bodies were recovered after the attack," and he explained that "some were shot and others were run over by extremists with their vehicles."

Ibrahim Lehman, a leader of the local self-defense group, said that the attack killed 59 people, noting that the repeated robberies of village livestock forced the residents to form a group for protection and guarding.

He added that the members of the group chased the attackers in the jungle and killed some of them in an exchange of fire.

Gubbio, about 80 kilometers from Maiduguri, the provincial capital, has been repeatedly attacked by extremists, which local authorities have responded to by mandating more than 100 men, members of local groups and traditional hunters, to protect the area and its surroundings from such attacks.
