Residents complain about lack of water, Directorate explains reasons

The problem of lack of water has become more complicated in al-Hasakah canton after the occupation of Serêkaniyê city by the Turkish occupation and the mercenaries of what they call "the Syrian National Army" since October 9 of 2019.

Since its occupation of Alok station which feeds al-Hasakah city and its districts, in addition to the camps in the region; al-Hol, al-Arisha, and Washokani, the Turkish occupation has cut off water more than 5 times.

The city's neighborhoods are fed with water once every 5 days, and since several days, the people have complained about the lack of water, especially with the advent of the summer season, and the people use the plastic packages to secure the largest possible amount of water, while filling a lot of tanks on the roofs of houses, recharging unsafe drinking water, in addition to buying it.

Hawar news agency monitored the people’s opinions in this regard, the solutions and measures they take with the lack of water, and what are its causes according to the Water Directorate.

Qassem Nawaf, a resident of al-Salihiyya neighborhood in the city of al-Hasakah says, "This is the third time that they have pumped water, and it does not reach most of the city's neighborhoods, including al-Salihiyya. We are suffering from shortage of water, and obliged to recharge unsafe drinking water to meet our needs, or buy it with exorbitant prices from the owners of the tanks who control the people."

Nawaf called on the Water Directorate in al-Hasakah canton to solve the problem as soon as possible, especially for the upcoming holiday and the coming summer.

The citizen Hadiyya Ibrahim, from al-Mufti neighborhood in the city noted that they cannot buy water because it has become expensive, and added, "First the water was pumped well, and we filled our need of it, but now they are pumping it late at night and the people cannot fill water."

For its part, the Directorate of Water in al-Hasakah canton explained that the reason for the water shortage is that the Turkish occupation army operated 3 pumps out of 8, in addition to operating 17 wells instead of 30 wells.

The Directorate pointed out that the occupation and its mercenaries removed the workers from the station, and they do not know now what is going on inside it.

The Directorate pointed out that one of the Turkish officers ordered the mercenaries who pumped and operated the station not to operate more than three pumps.
