Observatory: 700 Turkey-affiliated Syrian mercenaries defected

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights revealed on Wednesday that several brigades of pro-Turkish "Sultan Murad" mercenaries defected from the faction with their entire members, estimated at 700 mercenaries.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, the defection of the mercenary leaders with elements of the "Sultan Murad" group came in protest against their sending to Libya and killing them alongside Al-Sarraj government.

The division among Ankara's mercenaries has increased, owing to differences between the mercenaries and their leaders at home in Syria.

These divisions led to the withdrawal of several points belonging to the defecting brigades from the "Sultan Murad" mercenaries from the fronts of the fighting against the Syrian government forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the countryside of Serêkaniyê, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

On Tuesday, SOHR revealed that Turkey was continuing the process of transferring mercenaries to Libya in order to support the government of Fayez Al-Sarraj and its loyalist factions. It confirmed on its website that hundreds of new mercenaries have arrived in Libya via Turkey, while hundreds more are preparing to join soon.

According to the Syrian Observatory, some 7,850 mercenaries have arrived in Libyan territory so far in order to fight against the National Army.
