Russia condemns Afrin attacks, stresses fight against terrorists in Syria

Russia strongly condemned the terrorist attacks that targeted the civilians in Afrin canton, stressed the continued fight against the terrorists in Syria who have been classified by the Security Council, and confirmed that the lands controlled by Ankara are Syrian territories and must be returned eventually.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said in a statement issued on Thursday: "According to available information, an explosion occurred on April 28 in a market in Afrin city, northwest of Aleppo governorate, and it resulted in leaving about 40 victims, including 11 children, and the injury of 47 others according to the recent data."

"We strongly condemn the terrorist attacks that claim the lives of civilians, and stress in this context that there is no alternative to continuing the combat against the terrorists in Syria as designated by the United Nations Security Council," Zakharova added.

"We are concerned about the periodic waves of tension in the areas on the Syrian-Turkish border that are currently under the control of Ankara, and we consider that it is necessary to recall that the talk is about the lands belonging to Syria, which must eventually return to the control of Damascus."

"We are convinced that establishing stable and long-term stability and security in the Syrian-Turkish border region and the country in general is achievable only based on the revival of its sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman concluded.
