"Chausoglu considered" Differences over Syria should not affect Ankara's relations with Moscow, or hinder Turkey's purchase of the Russian S-400 missile system," Heaoğlu said.

After meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, on the sidelines of  Munich Security Conference, Chausoglu said: "We cannot change our principled positions, or our policy because of individual differences with one country or another. "We must not allow problems in Syria to undermine our cooperation and relations."

Last year, Russia delivered four missile platforms to Turkey, with a total value of $2.5 billion

. In late November, Turkey began testing the missile defense system, despite repeated warnings from the United States that this could lead to new sanctions.

Relations between Turkey and America, NATO members, were severely strained last year when Turkey purchased Russian S-400 defense systems, prompting Washington to threaten sanctions and suspend its involvement in the manufacture and purchase of the U.S. F-35.

Washington says the S-400 systems are not compatible with NATO regulations and threaten Lockheed Martin's F-35 stealth capabilities, while Ankara rejects it and says the systems will not be integrated into the alliance's defenses.
