According to Reuters, a French government source said on Tuesday that France had no plans to reduce the number of its forces in Iraq at the present time after the killing of Qassem Soleimani which had exacerbated tensions in the region.

The Armed Forces Minister Florence Barley said in a tweet on Twitter, “Considering the events occurred in Baghdad, France has already strengthened security for its 160 soldiers stationed in Iraq.”

Florence Barley also confirmed, “Paris' priority was and still is the fight against ISIS who are trying to reintegrate into the region again.”

In this context, she said, “France calls on Iran not to contribute to the escalation, but the return and full compliance with the nuclear agreement.”

In a related context, France Press quoted from a NATO official as saying, “The Alliance intends to withdraw a number of its forces from Iraq temporarily.”
