Bedran Çîa Kurd: We are open to dialogue, but regime is not serious

Bedran Çîa Kurd said that the liberation of Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî was their strategic issue, and he made clear, “We are open and serious to hold dialogue with the Syrian regime, but the regime is stepping up its tune against us, so that the talks between us will take a long time.”

The talk of the Deputy Joint Presidency of the Executive Council of Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Bedran Çîa Kurd, came during the annual meeting of the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM), which was held on Saturday in Qamishlo city.

Bedran Çîa pointed to the victory of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and their announcement of the defeat of ISIS mercenaries in the geography of northern and eastern Syria, which made the region with strong political and military prestige. He said, “Defeating ISIS geographically was one of the reasons for the development of relations between our administration and the countries of the world, and this development incurred the wrath of countries that have agendas in Syria, especially the Turkish occupation state.”

Çîa Kurd said, “Turkey put pressure on the all to achieve its goals in eliminating the gains we have made, and it has prevented our participation in any negotiations or political meetings related to resolving the Syrian crisis, and it is whichever prevented us from participating in the constitutional committee.”

Çîa Kurd indicated that the Turkish state had tried to take advantage of Russia and America; the two parties competing for influence in the Middle East, and accordingly agreements were concluded and resulted in Turkey's occupation of Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî. He said, “We have been working with the international coalition for nearly 5 years, despite the promises which the international coalition made before the Turkish attack to protect the region, repel and prevent any attack on the regions of northern and eastern Syria, but it violated its promises, opened the way for the Turkish military machinery, withdrew from many of its camps, and then redeployed its forces again, and the Russians and the Syrian regime also spread in the region.”

Bedran Çîa noted that the Syrian Democratic Forces’ resistance had played a great role to put pressure on the Turkish state politically, and gained the resistance of our people. He said, “We have not imagined to receive such support.”

Bedran Çîa stressed that the liberation of the cities of Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî was their strategic issue, and he said, “As long as our lands are under occupation, we will struggle and resist until its liberation.”

About the understanding that took place between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian regime, Bedran Çîa Kurd said, “The understanding was purely military, and the Syrian regime deployed the border guard forces along the border from Dêrik to Manbij.”

Bedran Çîa noted, "There were pressures by the Russians and the Syrian regime, as the Syrian Democratic Forces’ fighters are engaged in fights on all fronts, while the regime stopped on the international road, and did not spread along the contact lines. Russia asked us at that time to hand over the entire region to the regime, and with these threats, Russia wanted us to surrender, but we did not give up to these threats.”

Bedran Çîa Kurd made clear that the historic resistance shown by the Syrian Democratic Forces in repelling the attacks of the Turkish occupation opened new horizons of relations with the countries of the world, and he said, “The countries of the world do not want to weaken the Syrian Democratic Forces because their weakness will cause the appearance of terrorism that poses a threat to the region and the world again.”

“We are serious to hold dialogue with the Syrian regime”

On the dialogue with the Syrian regime, Bedran said, “We are open and serious in dialogue with the Syrian regime, and we have specifics and conditions that we will not concede. These conditions are the recognition of the Autonomous Administration and the protection of the Syrian Democratic Forces’ privacy, and any dialogue between us and the regime will be with the participation of all components; the Kurds, the Arabs and the Syriacs.”

“The regime escalates its tune against us, and the talks between us will prolong”

The Deputy Joint Presidency of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria said at the end of his speech that they had not seen any actual steps on the part of the Syrian regime to start any dialogue, and he concluded saying, “Russia listen to us and the Syrian regime with the aim of approaching the views between us, but the Syrian regime does not accept our conditions, is not serious about holding a dialogue and escalates its rhetoric against us, and the talks between us and them will take a long time.”
