The PMF 's media said in a statement, "More than twenty mourners from the bodies of the martyrs of the PMF were wounded by gunfire and smoke bombs, from inside the US embassy in Baghdad."

He explained, "The death toll of the mourners of the bodies of the martyrs of the PMF, after shooting and smoke bombs from inside the US embassy rose to more than 20 injured."

Supporters of Kataib Hezbollah announced an open sit-in, in front of the American embassy, ​​demanding its closure and the expulsion of the ambassador.

Two officials at the Iraqi Foreign Ministry told Reuters that the American ambassador and other employees of the embassy in the capital, Baghdad, had been evacuated before protesters could storm the embassy’s compound.

The headquarters of the 45th Brigade of the Popular Mobilization, on Sunday evening, December 29, 2019, was subjected to three American air strikes, in response to the killing of an American contractor and the injury of soldiers after targeting a US base.
