Boycott campaign reduced Turkey's exports to Bashur by nearly half a billion dollars

Kurdistan Region's Import and Export Union revealed a drop in the import rate from Turkey to Bashura "Southern Kurdistan", by almost half a billion dollar, following announcing the boycott campaign for Turkish goods and goods.

The head of the Import and Export Union - Howler Branch, Kelan Haji Saeed, said at a press conference on Sunday, that the total value of the imports from abroad to Iraq through Kurdistan region during the 9 months of 2019, amounted to 48 billion and 970 million dollars, excluding electricity and gas imported from Iran and that worth $2 billion and $500 million.

Saeed said the amount of imports decreased this year compared to 2018 by $20 billion and $926 million, or 22 percent.

Saeed noted that Turkey tops the list of the exporting countries to the region, followed by Iran secondly and China thirdly.

In a response to the question whether the boycott of the Turkish products had affected the proportion of the imports from Turkey? Haji Saeed said that the percentage has fallen this year by $492 million, pointing out that the boycott campaign is one of the most prominent factors of the decline.

Campaigns have launched in Southern Kurdistan, and many other countries around the world to boycott the Turkish goods in a response to the Turkish state's attack on northern and eastern Syria since October 9th this year.

"Kurdistan Region has not exported any materials from the local production, except some waste, such as paper and plastic, which is not part of the local production," said Saeed.
