Newroz Ahmed: Our units defeated IS, struggle continues

YPJ that are considered the only force that have been protecting women and their righters over the Syrian crisis, these units participated in all the liberation campaigns that was launched in north and east Syria against IS mercenaries and had the leading role to collapse the so-called the Caliphate State.  

Since the launch of al-Jazeera Tempest campaign that is considered the last campaign launched by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in north and east Syria, YPJ have begun to participate in this campaign and took over the leading of the frontal fronts. They also had the central role to liberate thousands of civilians from IS' mercenaries that had used the civilians as human shields in addition to liberating hundreds of women among them the Yazidi women who had been kidnapped by the mercenaries during the massacre committed in Şengal in 2014.

The participation of fighters from Deir ez-Zor

What is noticeable in this campaign is the participation of fighters from Deir ez-Zor areas in this campaign as the spokeswoman of this campaign Lilwa al-Abdullah's origin is from those areas, in addition to the participation of fighters of all the components as the main goal is to liberate women and protect them after the oppression they had suffered from by the mercenaries.

The commander in the ranks of YPJ and the member of the General Command in SDF Newroz Ahmed pointed out that the fighters played their central role in each campaign launched in north and east Syria, "The main goal is to liberate the women who had suffered the oppression by the mercenaries in the result of the tyrannical mentality imposed on the people."

In spite of all the obstructs, the fighters succeeded in their task

During the campaign, several obstructs have been emerged, the most prominent were the weather factors such as rain and fog witnessed in the Syrian areas, and the harsh provisions that had been imposed on the area's people over five years left a kind of terror within them as the mercenaries used to persuade them that SDF fighters would kill them. In this context, Newroz Ahmed siad, "In the beginning of their liberation, the people feared to approach the fighters due to the ideas implanted within their minds by the mercenaries, but after they have been introduced to the fighters closely, they have stood beside the fighters and have become the main supporters in the campaign's advance. Thus, it can be said that the fighters succeeded in their function to liberate the women and protect them."

The liberation of 200 kidnapped women by the mercenaries

During the attacks launched by IS mercenaries on Şengal province in August 3, 2014, they kidnapped hundreds of Yazidi women, and made them a commodity in al-Raqqa markets and the other areas occupied by them. During al-Jazeera Tempest campaign, the fighters were able to liberate hundreds of the Yazidi women and rescued them from the mercenaries.

The commander in YPJ and the member of the General Command in SDF Newroz Ahmed said, "During the campaign, 200 kidnapped Yazidi women by the mercenaries in Şengal were liberated and handed over to their families."  

A noticeable joining the units' ranks after realizing their reality

Al-Jazeera Tempest campaign witnessed a noticeable turnout by the people, especially the women to join YPJ ranks according to Newroz Ahmed as she said, "The mercenaries used the women for satisfying their sexual desires so when they got liberated, we saw young women of various ages rushed to join YPJ."

YPJ defeated IS mercenaries

The commander in YPJ and the General Command's member in SDF Newroz Ahmed pointed out that IS mercenaries who wanted to impose the masculine mentality on the society were afraid of the military fighters, the tactic in the battle and those who sacrificed the expensive and the cheap for the sake of liberating the people and the land from the mercenaries as dozens of fighters martyred in this campaign, and it can be said that YPJ defeated IS mercenaries in their last strongholds.

IS was defeated, but has not ended, yet so our mission continues

The areas that were liberated within al-Jazeera Tempest campaign are considered the last areas occupied by IS mercenaries on the Syrian land, while YPJ that were formed to protect all the women in Syria will continue their duty. Newroz Ahmed said, "We will continue our mission protecting the women and liberating them from the oppression practiced against them, and we will save them from the masculine mentality."
