MPs call Macron to support SDF, put Kurds under international protection

According to the French agency, this invitation comes at the initiative of the left-wing party "France Rebel".

Among the signatories are the head of the party's parliamentary bloc Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the head of the bloc of the Democrats and Independents Union Jean-Christoph Lagard and others.

"France's support for the Kurdish forces is not only a moral duty, but it contributes to our security, France should not abandon its best and most loyal allies," the agency said.

The call comes after US President Donald Trump announced last December his country's withdrawal from Syria.

The MPs warned that "an attack by the Turkish army on the Kurds may enable the IS to regain its strength."

They demanded that France assumes its responsibilities by asking the UN Security Council to place the Kurds in Syria under international protection and to negotiate a political solution to lift the PKK from the list of terrorist organizations.
