Al-Karama municipality... 1 year many services provided future’s plans underway

On 05,11, 2017 The People’s Municipality in al-Karama area was established by al-Raqqa Civil Council, and service projects were being implemented to improve service reality in some villages in the eastern countryside, after liberating the area from IS grip on March 26, 2017, the municipality has got heavy machineries to help it to do it work.

The first work done by the municipality after its establishment is the allocation of tractors to transport dirt and garbage from al-Karama area and villages to the places dedicated to waste disposal, and after the assembly workshops are burning waste to prevent the spread of smells, diseases and epidemics and reduce the large collection of garbage.

One of the priorities of the municipality was also the rehabilitation of sewerage lines and drinking water networks, and contributed to the rehabilitation of the drinking station in the villages of al-Hamrat and al-Karama, which numbers about 200,000 people.

Moreover, roads in the secondary and main streets were opened, IS mercenaries established earth barriers to prevent civilians from going out to the liberated areas, in addition to paving the roads, most of the roads were damaged as a result of IS domination of the area, which witnessed violent battles, and removed the rubble of the ruins of the neighborhoods that were destroyed by the war.

The Environment and Parks Committee in the municipality has played a major role in restoring the parks which were destroyed and marginalized and their trees dried up, the committee has restored the parks of Zana and al-Karama, setting benches and chairs, trimming trees, planting shady trees, creating water slides in the park and painting doors and fences and decorating it.

The municipality also has supervisory committees that oversee the control of markets, bakeries, pharmacies and the prevention of violations.

Future projects and plans

In addition to the work carried out by the municipality last year, it has drawn up a plan for several future projects to be implemented during the current year. These include rehabilitation of the damaged roads and lighting, expansion of sewage networks in some villages, replacement of damaged networks with new networks, rehabilitation of the sewage plant in the town, which was destroyed by IS and a project to open a slaughterhouse for cattle slaughter.

In this regard, Hawar news agency (ANHA) has met with Co-chair of People’s Municipality in al-Karama Khalid Khomri who said: "Since the establishment of the municipality in the eastern countryside of al-Raqqa, which is the first municipality in the region after liberation, we have done a lot of work after all public utilities were damaged by the armed factions and mercenaries that have followed the control of the region and left behind significant adverse effects on the service sector."

On the future works, Khalid Al-Khmari said: "The municipality is the civilized face of the region and authorized in the service of the people and therefore our doors are open to the people to receive their complaints, the municipality is in the process of setting up several future service projects to start its work during the new year."
