Despite poor capabilities, Kurdish Red Crescent provides treatment

The people of Afrin were forced to displace from their homes during the attacks of the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries on March 18, 2018, and they are staying now among the rubble left by IS mercenaries and within the camps.

As a result of the failure of the relief and medical organizations to provide support, in addition to the harsh climatic and living conditions and lack of possibilities of Autonomous Administration and the Kurdish Red Crescent, many people suffer from diseases.

Recently, leishmaniosis spread among the people of Afrin who are living in al-Shahab canton, patients’ number have reached more than 250 so far, 100 cases were being treated, in addition to other diseases, including "cold, pressure, short breath and tuberculosis," and other diseases which main cause is cold and living among the damaged buildings.

The administrator of the Kurdish Red Crescent, Akram Arab, explained that, due to the low temperature in the region and the difficulty of life in winter, several diseases spread among the people of Afrin who are residing in al-Shahba.

Arab pointed out that there are six medical points belonging to the Kurdish Red Crescent in al-Shahba canton, and every point treats more than 150 cases every day.

Arab noted, "We are suffering from the spread of viruses in al-Shahba canton, especially among children and women, such as high fever, shortness of breath and other diseases, due to difficult climatic conditions, in addition to suffering from tuberculosis, leishmaniasis and acute bronchitis because of the great shortage of medicines, we are working 24 hours a day."

The Kurdish Red Crescent worked to monitor the statistics of the number of patients and found that there were more than 250 cases of leishmaniasis in the village of Tel-Sheer alone, 90 cases were treated.

Arabs, pointed out that they in the Kurdish Red Crescent will continue to help the people of Afrin, and treatment of their diseases despite the lack of support from any organization.

The Kurds stressed that the Kurdish Red Crescent is doing its duty to the fullest and to work for free despite the poor possibilities. They appealed to the competent authorities and human rights and relief organizations to provide assistance and medicines to the people.
