Holland warns of fueling terrorism by Turkish threats to Kurds in Syria

Former French President Francois Holland noted on Sunday to the "big sacrifice" offered by the Kurds in fighting against terrorists in Syria, warning of "terrorism fueling if the Kurds were targeted by a new Turkish attack.

In a statement following a meeting with Khaled Issa, the representative of the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria, Holland said the Kurds had played a "big role" in the fight against ISIS mercenaries, "with the support of the (International Coalition and then France."

"The Kurds of Syria have paid great human sacrifices in their fight against terrorism" Holland said.

The former president said he feared of fueling the conflict after the unilateral decision by US President Donald Trump to withdraw 2,000 US troops stationed in Syria and the threat of a new Turkish intervention in North and East Syria.

"These threats, if followed by actions, will have serious consequences for the population and will harm France's ally in fighting ISIS and lead to the escalation of terrorism outside Syria," the statement said.
