Iranian journalist: It is time to deal with terrorists in Idlib

On September 17, 2018, in the Russian city of Sochi, the Turkish President Recap Teyyip Erdogan and the Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to establish a demilitarized zone between the mercenaries backed by Turkey and the Syrian regime.

"The agreement between the Turkish and Russian presidents was to get out of the dilemma that might arise if an attack on Idlib would be launched, which would cause great embarrassment among the supporters of the regime and the mercenaries of Turkey," said Buya Mirzai.

The writer talked about Sochi agreement and what happened after the agreement and said, "The agreement between the Turkish and Russian presidents was to get out of the dilemma that might occur if an attack on Idlib would begin which would cause a great embarrassment between the supporters of the regime (Russia) and the supporters of mercenaries (Turkey)."

The Russian President Vladimir Putin said at that time that the demilitarized zone would be with a width of 15 to 20 kilometers that would enter into force by October 15. In line with the agreement, Putin then persuaded the Syrian president to accept Sochi agreement that was signed between Russia and Turkey.

The Iranian writer notes that it is surprising that Sochi agreement has been adopted effectively by Western countries which have already expressed their deep concern about the human rights situation in Idlib.

Analysts believe that Ankara has deliberately ignored the issue of withdrawing its mercenary groups from there to use them as a "trump card" for its policy.

The writer added, "The lack of progress in implementing the agreements reached in Sochi between Turkey and Russia will aggravate and complicate the daily administration of the situation in Idlib."

The writer said in conclusion, "Due to the failure to comply with all the agreements in Sochi, further delay in the liberation of Idlib will reduce the Syrian military influence, and the anti-regime terrorists will have more time to rebuild. It is time to deal with the terrorists and form a comprehensive political agreement to solve the Syrian problems."
