Intra-Syrian dialogue discuses axis of women’s issue, role

After finishing the first axis during the second day of the intra-Syrian dialogue held in Ain Issa town, the participant parties took to discussions, primarily the women’s issue and role in the Syrian solution and stability.”

During this axis, on behalf of the Coordination of the Syrian Women’s Council in the Syrian Coast Inaam Nayof delivered a speech where she stated, “Women’s rights lie within the general context of human rights and its fundamental freedoms, they include all kinds of rights and fundamental freedoms, their divisions and assurances, as the concept of human rights and fundamental freedoms developed, a kind of specialism came about in putting forward these rights.”

Nayof explained that women’s rights expression has occupied a considerable place day after day on the international and national levels: there are national, international and regional organizations, associations, and unions which lift the banner to demand recognizing and implementing these rights.”

Inaam  Nayof proposed many suggestions about women which include:

1- Abolishing all Syrian conservations on the agreement to eliminate all kinds of discrimination against women, all women-related treaties, modifying Syrian laws and legislations in accordance with all treaties’ provisions.

2- Adding an article to the Syrian code which implicitly states on abolishing discrimination against women, beginning to work on a special law project prohibiting discrimination based on sex.

3- All Syrian governmental, non-governmental institutions commit to broadening the scope of awareness campaigns.

4- Working on providing legal protection for women in case discriminated against.
