Biology department opens at Kobanî University

Kobanî University has opened the registration for students since August 28 this year and its period expired in September 27, while on the first of November, the university was opened for the students to start the academic year.

During the past academic year, the University has suffered from a small number of students, while the number of students increased significantly during the current year. Accordingly, the university's administration sought to increase the number of professors and a new department was added to the faculties of the university.

The co-chair of Kobanî University Kamal Mahmoud Basrawi said that the number of students this year increased significantly compared with the last year. He added, "In the current academic year, we have increased the number of teaching staff in many sections. The number of professors at the university is currently 24 professors. This year, we seek to avoid errors and shortcomings in addition to opening new departments according to students' wishes."

Basrawi has expressed his happiness to provide students with an opportunity to learn, and stressed that the main reason for declining the numbers of students during the past year is that many students are living in villages and because of the poor financial conditions, they have not been able to continue their studies.

According to Basrawi, the university's doors are open to students from all areas and districts, and the university's administration is now seeking to build housing buildings for the students. He also stressed that they will seek to secure all student requirements and expand the university as well.

Adding new sections

During the last academic year, Kobanî University included the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics Departments of the Faculty of Basic Sciences, as well as the Kurdish Language and Literature Departments. During the current academic year, new sections were added to the university, including the Department of Biology which was added to the Faculty of Basic Sciences, while the Arabic Language and Literature Department which was scheduled to open in Girê Spî canton was delayed due to the lack of specialized teachers.

Amikim Mohammed, a student at Kobanî University has expressed her happiness to register in the university and following up her studies. He said, "Previously, students have severely suffered from completing the university because there was no university in our city, especially the girls have greatly suffered because of the lack of potentials and the difficulties they faced."
