'We have to know our enemy well to be able to liberate our land'

The co-chair of Afrin canton's council Muhammad Naso, who now lives in al-Shahba canton, had met the leader of the Kurdish people Abdullah Ocalan in 1996 in the Syrian city of Aleppo. Naso pointed out to ANHA agency to the discussions that took place between them and Ocalan during a three-hour meeting.

Naso said that all that Ocalan had touched on is now happening on the ground.

He said that during his discussions, Ocalan referred to the history of the Kurds and Kurdistan and the reasons for the occupation of Kurdistan by hostile countries, and he added, that as the leader told us, "When we are prepared to confront the enemy, we must know who is the enemy, what is his history and the reasons for his occupation of our territories. Then, we would be able to do something to liberate Kurdistan."

Naso noted that Ocalan asked them to know the history of Kurdistan and the periods it passed through and what happened in each period and continued, "If we do not know our history, we would not be able to liberate our homeland."

Naso pointed out that Ocalan's ideology spread among the circles in a short time, "The international conspiracy against the leader aimed at preventing the spread of his ideology and philosophy, but this plot failed because of following the millions of people who believed in freedom and democracy on the leader's path."

He added, "We see today, when an attack is launched on any area of Kurdistan, all the Kurds revolt in the streets and take part in demonstrations and activities all over the world. This happens due to our adoption of the ideology of the leader who calls for struggle, resistance and non-submission to the enemy.

Mohammed Naso said that the attack on Afrin is a continuation of the international conspiracy. He continued, "What happened in Afrin was an attack on the peoples' brotherhood and coexistence. It was a continuation of the international conspiracy which took place on the leader in 1999, but our will prevented the plot from being succeeded again. Our struggle in al-Shahba canton is a response to that conspiracy, and we will continue to fight for our cause and we will liberate Afrin from the hands of occupation."
