Achievements made by Health Committee in al-Raqqa

The Health Committee in al-Raqqa Civil Council has opened several medical centers to provide medical services to the people, and in order to promote the reality of health, the Commission is currently working to rehabilitate the National Hospital. It is scheduled to be completed at the beginning of the next year.

Most of the hospitals and health centers in al-Raqqa city have been severely damaged over the last four years where IS gangs inflicted massive destruction to the infrastructure of al-Raqqa city, public and vital facilities.

Al-Raqqa city suffers from the lack of health sector in absence of operating the National Hospital which used to provide health and medical services to the entire al-Raqqa city's people, while the people suffer from the high prices of medicine and the difficulty of conducting surgical operations for high costs.

About 39 public and private medical points were exposed to vandalism operations.30 have been completely destroyed and 9 points have been partially damaged.

After liberating al-Raqqa city by virtue of the Syrian Democratic Forces' fighters and the expulsion IS gangs from it. Al-Raqqa Civil Council initiated to promote the health reality through the distribution of medical points and the introduction of mobile clinics to provide medical services to the people.

The opening of Seif al-Dawla Center for blood bank in the center of al-Raqqa city, and the center of Thalassemia disease as the infected exceeded 221 are considered the most important achievements of the Health Committee, providing the necessary drugs for them and blood is transferred to them periodically and freely.

The Committee has also opened 16 routine vaccine centers in most neighborhoods of al-Raqqa and its countryside. 11 vaccination campaigns have been organized till now, including the city and its countryside, and mobile ambulances have been allocated and they are ready to serve the population.

The committee is currently working to equip a dialysis department in coordination with Doctors without Borders Organization and it would be opened in the ground floor of the National Hospital.

The Health Committee has licensed 8 private hospitals in al-Raqqa city as well as 3 other hospitals in the countryside. Pharmacy licenses have been granted to a number of pharmacies after confirming their certificates.

According to the head of the Health Committee in al-Raqqa Civil Council Ahmed Ismail, the National Hospital in al-Raqqa city continue the work of restoration and repair, while Ismail confirmed that the hospital will be in service at the beginning of next year, 2019.
