Significant reduction in water of Euphrates Lake

The Turkish state continues its aggression against the Syrian people and holding water of the Euphrates River behind its dams, which led to low levels of the Euphrates Lake water, which is stored by the Euphrates dam to about 4 meters, which is grave if compared with the amount of water needed by one turbine to generate electricity.

This problem forced the management of the Euphrates dam to close the gates and increase the number of hours of rationing to about 10 hours and may exceed this limit sometimes to maintain somewhat on the water level, which allows to keep the turbines in operation and generation.

In an interview conducted by ANHA agency with the administrator of the Euphrates Dam in al-Tabqa the engineer Mohammed Sheikho who pointed out that the low level of water is one of the most negatively affecting the work of turbines and dam pumps, which transformers generating electricity have recently been maintained to return to work.

 According to agreements between the countries that the Euphrates River pass through (Turkey, Syria and Iraq), Turkey has to pass the amount of 500 M3 /S, but the Turkish state does not abide by these agreements, and passes less than 200 M3 /S, which is not enough to reach water to Iraq.

Sheikho also highlighted the problem of water evaporation in the summer, which also causes the lack of water, not to mention the main reason.

In order to protect the Euphrates dam and ensure that it does not become out of service, the Euphrates Dam has taken a series of measures, including stopping turbines generating electricity and increasing the rationing hours.

At the end of the interview with the director of the Euphrates Dam Mohammad Sheikho, he demanded all countries, organizations and human rights to put the pressure on the Turkish state to pass Syria's allocations of Euphrates water, adding that Turkey is fighting the Syrian citizen for his livelihood by following this policy.
