Azad Oso: All Syrians must be involved in drafting their constitution

ANHA agency met with the head of the Euphrates branch of the Future Syria Party, Azad Oso, on the efforts of a number of regional countries to draft the new Syrian constitution.

At the beginning of his speech, the head of the Euphrates branch (Kobanî and Girê Spî cantons) Azad Oso pointed out that "the Constitutional Committee that emerged from the meeting of Astana has two poles, the first one of the opposition supported by Turkey and the second regime, without representation for the rest of the segments and components of the people on the Syrian arena."

Azad pointed out that they as Future Syria Party see that one party cannot lead Syria to safety and all the parties must take unified decision to save Syria from the crisis it is going through.

He said, they as Future Syria Party  believe in pluralism and not to exclude any party or component by taking a decision that serves the citizens."

The UN envoy to Syria, Stephan de Mistura, is working with the Group of Mini States, "America, France, Britain, Jordan and Syria" to draft a new constitution for Syria, which has been in crisis for nearly eight years.

But the regional and international parties that control the process of drafting the constitution have not yet agreed to form a specific committee to work on its formulation.

Observers expect that the efforts to form the committee will take time because the international and regional agendas and interests govern it, as it appears now, all components of the Syrian people do not participate in.

Azad said," The Constitutional Committee formed from the regime and the opposition will not change anything about the Syrian crisis, but will complicate it because the two parties are the basis of the Syrian crisis, its aggravation and Syrians’ bloodshed since 8 years."

Azad added, "Any constitutional committee or project to resolve the Syrian crisis must be represented by all the components of the Syrian people ethnically and religiously, due to the diversity of existing components on the Syrian arena, and not to limit them to specific parties."

Azad pointed out that they believe it is necessary to hold a meeting attended by all components to form a constitution for the future Syria, which said "it will not succeed if there is denial or exclusion of any component or sect, whether national or religious in Syria."

In addition, Moscow has made clear that it does not support the urgency in the efforts to form a constitutional committee for Syria, although it was recently discussed at the international arenas."

The international envoy to Syria, Stephan de Mistura, hopes to be able to form a constitutional committee before the end of this year. While the media said that the committee will be formed according to three equal shares between the "opposition, the regime and civil society," and was said to be 150 members, including 45 members as a mini group.

The sponsors of the Astana process (Russia, Turkey and Iran) are sponsoring the drafting of the Constitution Committee, which was proposed by the Sochi Conference for National Dialogue earlier this year in Russia."
