SDF thwarted IS' attacks

SDF's media center issued a statement revealing the outcome of the clashes ongoing in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor during the past 24 hours.

1. Al-Bagouz axis: Our fighters launched a large-scale attack on the terrorists’ positions, killing several of them and causing material damage in their equipment. The terrorists launched a counter-attack again taking advantage of the dense area of trees where they tried to infiltrate among the trees and reached close to the positions of our troops, but the vigilance of our fighters thwarted the attack after violent clashes erupted with them and left a number of killed in their ranks as we could not know the outcome because of the density of trees and the risk of mines before being combed by the competent engineering teams.

The Coalition's air force also destroyed a tunnel used by terrorists, and it was not known if terrorists were inside it.

In the evening, the terrorists’ movements with their vehicles were noticed in the vicinity of al-Morsheda town and they were targeted by several artillery shells of the International Coalition. During the combing operations in the same village, our fighters found a quantity of weapons and ammunition.

2 –Hejin axis: This axis witnessed strong clashes, ranging from hit-and-run operations, but our fighters were able to progress in the area that was controlled by the terrorists amid the artillery shelling. A number of mercenaries were killed in the clashes in addition to inflicting them with material damage.

3 – The outcome of the clashes:

- The number of terrorists killed: (6) terrorists.

- The strikes of International Coalition: (4) strikes.

- The terrorist losses: The destruction of a tunnel and a site where the terrorists used to hole up.

- The weapons seized by our troops: A mortars’ cannon in addition to a number of fillings, an explosive belt and a thermal rocket launcher.
