Mass demo in Girkê Legê condemned 9th October plot

Tuesday marks the 20th anniversary of the 9th October, 1998 plot that targeted the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan that led to his departure from Syria and an international conspiracy plotted against him to abduct him and hand over him to the Turkish fascist authorities in February 15, 1999.

To denounce that plot, the people of Dêrik, Girkê Legê and Çilaxa marched hand in hand within a mass demonstration organized by the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) in which the people of various components and spectra of the society participated. Moreover, the demonstration took place in the districts of Dêrik.

The demonstration started from the Martyr Khebat square and toured the main street in the center of the town chanting the slogans which salute the resistance of Ocalan and condemning the isolation imposed on him. The participants raised the pictures of Ocalan and banners that denounced the 9th October plot with "The struggle of the peoples will end the October plot,” “The Human Rights Court is a partner in the conspiracy,” “The struggle of women will defeat the conspiracy,” “With an organizational campaign and the will of the revolutionary people, we will liberate Afrin and guarantee the freedom of leader Ocalan" written on.

The demonstrators gathered in the center of Girkê Legê town, where they held a minute of silence and then delivered a number of speeches, including the speech of the administrative in Kongra Star Dalia Hannan which denounced the plot against the leader. She pointed out that it aimed to undermine the will of the Kurdish people.

Hannan noted that the plot is still continuing and one of its chapters is the international consensus again on the Turkish occupation to Afrin, stressing that the struggle of the Kurdish people in general and the people of Afrin in particular will continue and fail all the conspiracies.

After that, the Democratic Union Party's co-chair Shahoz Hassen delivered a speech who commemorated at the beginning all the martyrs of Rojava and northern Syria and said, "Because the leader Abdullah Ocalan represents the sun that illuminated the life of the oppressed peoples and the living with brotherhood and peace, he was targeted through the plot of the 9th October that led to his abduction and the imposition of a strict isolation on him to block that light to all the peoples demanding freedom and peace."

Furthermore, the demonstration ended with chanting the slogans that salute Ocalan's resistance and call for his freedom.
