Daesh intends to establish "caliphate" in Central Asia

The head of the anti-terrorism center in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), General Andrei Novikov, said that IS mercenaries were planning to establish a "caliphate" in former Soviet Central Asian countries.

General Novikov mentioned this at a meeting of counter-terrorism chiefs of the security and intelligence services of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which took place as part of the Antiterror-2018 exercises.

According to him, the militants are also trying to activate "undercover cells" in that area.

Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister Zinisz Razakov warned that terrorist threats in Central Asia and the Commonwealth of Independent States would generate long-term conflicts.

In June, Igor Serotkin, deputy director of the Russian Federal Security Service, the head of National Counterterrorism Committee Body, said that despite the losses Daesh had sustained, it continued to spread throughout the world and remained a serious threat.

The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is a Euro-Asian international organization composed of 12 former Soviet republics: Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, based in Minsk in White Russia.
