Security sources said that a boat carrying more than 35 Syrian refugees drowned in the coast of Lebanon on Saturday and the Lebanese army rescued most of its passengers.

According to Reuters, the boat was illegally transporting refugees to Cyprus when it drowned in the northern coast of Lebanon and 3 of the people aboard the boat were taken to hospital and in critical condition.

Lebanon also hosts, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees around 1 million registered refugees who fled the Syrian war. The Lebanese government says the number is about 1.5 million.
