Exhumation of more than 2,600 corpses from mass graves in al-Raqqa

The Initial Response Team completed the exhumation of a mass grave at the old mosque in Saif al-Dawlah neighborhood, while the team has exhumed 2,600 corpses so far.

Since the beginning of the liberation of al-Raqqa city on 20 October 2017 of IS mercenaries by the hands of the Syrian Democratic Forces, the initial response team is exhumed the corpses from the mass graves in al-Raqqa city and deliver them to their families and bury the unknown corpses in the allocated places.

The corpses have so far been recovered from several graves (al-Rasheid Stadium, Zoo, four Arab houses in the Bedouin neighborhood, the old mosque). The corpses have so far reached 2,600 corpses, mostly children and women, whom had been buried by Daesh in mass graves.

"We are continuing to recover the bodies from al-Raqqa city. Today we have completed the work from the mass grave in the old mosque, and the number of corpses reached 94 corpses, including 68 corpses of civilians identified and handed over to their families and 26 unknown corpses remained and will be buried in the allocated places. "

"We still have al- Panorama mass cemetery, but for the presence of the planted mines, the corpses can not be recovered now until it is cleaned," al-Arian said.
