Security, stability promote constructional development in Dêrik

Many of the cities of al-Jazeera canton suffered of neglect and marginalization by the municipalities of the regime, where the construction was prevented and heavy license fees imposed, resulting in a decline in urbanization. However, the situation has changed with the declaration of the autonomous administration and the establishment of the people's municipalities, where cities are witnessing a constructional movement.

Organizing and expanding the city according to the new organizational chart

In response to the growing demand for residential apartments in Dêrik city of Qamişhlo canton, the People's Municipality sought to expand the organizational plan of the municipality to include many neighborhoods surrounding the city, so these neighborhoods have become areas in which to allow construction in accordance with the laws of the People's Municipality, while the municipality is responsible for the establishment and rehabilitation of infrastructure of water networks, sewage channels, electricity networks and other services.

The security and stability situation contributed to the prosperity of the constructional sector

In addition to the municipality's attempt to expand the city's organizational chart, other factors that contributed to the flowering of the construction sector are the state of stability in the area. It is well known that during the previous years of the attacks of the mercenary gangs, but the People's and Women's Protection Units had succeeded in liberating those areas and removing the mercenaries' danger out of the canton. The other security institutions also contribute to maintaining security and stability and preserving the property of the people.

This stability has driven many people who have previously migrated out of Rojava to return to their homes, which has contributed to increased demand for apartments.

Rising prices obsessed parents

The boom and expansion of constructional movement has also been accompanied by a significant rise in the prices of apartments and real estate, which is a major concern for middle-income.

The technical section of the municipality supervises the granting of building permits and the development of building laws and regulations to guarantee the safety and completeness of the building. The municipality determines the permitted percentage of construction for the area of ​​each record after completing all the legal requirements of the property rights and others.

However, some contractors sometimes complain about the municipality's reluctance to grant building permits because of some routine procedures that they consider unnecessary and do not contribute to the rehabilitation of the constructional sector.

The indiscriminate construction is a source of concern for the residents and the municipality

In the midst of the increasing demand for residential apartments, some contractors are building in areas that are not earmarked for construction and outside the organizational plan, these are usually non-serviced areas and lack infrastructure.

In addition, the construction of random and irregular construction is causing inconvenience to the people, as roads are closed to passers-by due to the accumulation of construction materials and waste.

The municipality offers various types of facilities

The municipality works to facilitate the affairs of the people, as well as construction contractors where the Technical Committee oversees the conduct of statements on the lands and consider their legal status. So far, the municipality has granted about 400 building permits to residents and contractors.

"Any citizen who submits an application to the municipality to build or renovate his house shall be approved after taking the necessary measures and procedures by the technical department, and no objection shall be made to his project if it is within the required conditions,"Hasan Muhammad Muhammad a technician in the Technical Department said.

"We are working with all means to prevent such abuses," Mohammed said. "After we received some complaints about the slums, we have to take all the measures and we stand seriously on this matter."

Mohammed appealed, “the people and the Communes and the Engineers Union and contractors to cooperate and coordination “The municipality cannot do anything if we do not cooperate with each other," he said.
