Afrin rights activists: Silence of concerned parties, increases women's suffering

The people of Afrin have resisted the Turkish aggression against the canton for 58 days, and Afrin women made heroic resistance due to the barbaric shelling of the area, 56 women were martyred, in addition to the wounding of 104 others.

After occupying Afrin canton by Turkish occupation, the women situation is getting worse where direct violence have been used, namely murder, rape, trafficking in women, causing disability and abduction. The number of kidnapped women in Afrin reached 119, and this number is increasing day by day, indirect violence as low educational level, and forced marriage of minors.

In this context (ANHA) interviewed a number of women activist  from Afrin canton who are living in al-Shahba canton after occupying the canton by Turkey, "The people of Afrin did not accept the Turkish occupation and the practices of its mercenaries, so they preferred living in the camps to live in the clutches of the occupation."

Turkey's practices are proof of its weakness in front of women's free will

"The Turkish occupation state has targeted women from the beginning of the attacks until this moment with immoral practices. This targeting clearly reflects the weakness of the Turkish occupation against the free will of women in Afrin," she said.

For her part,   Activist Tolin Mohammed said that the women who were existed in the occupied land of Afrin were unable to get out of Afrin first because of the intensity of their attachment to their land. Some of them were unable to do so because of the barbaric shelling of planes and heavy weapons she pointed out that the women who remained in the occupied Afrin suffer as a result of the practices of the Turkish occupation.

Urgent appeal to women's and human rights organizations

Tolin appealed at the end of her talk humanitarian and women's organizations to intervene to end the violations of the Turkish occupation, she said “Violations and attacks by the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries against the women in Afrin constitute a violation of international law and the commitment of the concerned parties to silence increases women's suffering within occupied Afrin."

Following the occupation of Turkey, the Social Justice Committee of Afrin canton follows the violations and attacks by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries against women, documenting the violations and sending them to the concerned and human rights bodies in the world but the parties do not move till now and accounting Turkey.
