After decades of marginalization, breeding original horses lives on al-Jazeera

The southern areas of both of Tirbespiyê and Jil Aga districts in al-Jazeera region and North Syria parts of breeding Arabian horses, the horses of this area are characterized by the characteristics of the original Arabian horses in the Middle East, and those areas were a destination for many lovers and breeders of horses in the Arab countries, especially Saudi Arabia and Qatar before the outbreak of the Syrian revolution in 2011.

There are several types of horses in the southern areas of Tirbespiyê and Jil Aga, such as al-Jedrania, al-Hudbiat, al-Hamadaniat, Rasan, Obiya, and al-Kahila which contain of 8 types of horses.

The policy of marginalization even in the field of sport which was practiced against the people of al-Jazeera!

The Syrian regime prevented horse breeders in al-Jazeera regions from participating in the horse competitions that were held within Syria, such as Damascus international fair for horses and equestrian, Lattakia International Arabian Horse Race and the Palmyra Original Horse Festival.

Return the attention to the legacy of ancestors

And after the liberation of the southern areas of Tirbespiyê and Jil Aga districts from the mercenaries by the People's and Women's Protection Units in early 2015, the security and stability within the area has returned, the horses' breeders return their interest of them again, believing in their authenticity and reviving the heritage of parents and grandparents again.

Nafie Jadouh, a horse breeder in Tirbespiyê, has 6 original horses of al-Jadraniat strain, he inherited the profession of horse breeding from his father, which he inherited from his ancestors, he explained that horse breeding is one of the oldest Arab professions in the area, it requires special care, medical care and special training, continuing to participate in competitions held in the area

"Our horses were involved, but not in our names, but before any race, traders from Aleppo, Tartous and Jabla were to rent horses or buy them cheaply to participate in the races," Nafie Jadoua said.

Horse breeders in the southern areas of Tirbespiyê and Jil Aga face several obstacles, including the lack of good species of livestock feed, and a lack of organized races and festivals in the area.

The breeders called on stakeholders and livestock in al-Jazeera region to provide the necessary support for them and to hold festivals and races in the area.
