Turkish occupation emptied Nouri Dêrsimi Cemetery in Afrin

In continuation of the systematic destruction on the path of IS mercenaries that is practiced by the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries to desecrate and destroy monuments, shrines and all the Kurdish monuments in Afrin, where recently, the mercenaries have destroyed the tomb and emptied the cemetery which includes the remains of Dr. Nouri Dêrsimi in Hennan Shrine in Shera district of Afrin canton.

The importance of Hennan Shrine in Afrin

It is considered one of the most ancient and famous sanctuaries in Afrin area. It has become a large and general cemetery for the people of the area, containing tombs of prominent figures named in history.

Summary of the late Dr. Nouri Dêrsimi’s life

He was born in March, 1894 in the village of Akhzonik of Dêrsim state. His father was called Ibrahim and his mother Zuleikha and he belongs to Mellan clan. He started practicing politics as a young man and founded the Kurdistan Students' Union with some of his comrades and continued until secondary school.

Dr. Nouri Dêrsimi died in 1973, while his wife Farida died in 1994 and they were buried in the courtyard of the shrine’s building. The origin of Nouri Dêrsimi was from the Kurds of Turkey. He fled to Syria in the 1940s due to the tyranny of the Turks and lived in Aleppo until his death.

The Turkish occupation army's mercenaries destroyed a civilization dates back to more than 3,000 years by attacking the archaeological and historical sites in the canton, including Maron Church and Julianus Church which includes the tombs of the two saints in Berad village in the World Heritage Site’s list, and it is considered one of the oldest Christian churches in the world where it was built at the end of the 4th century AD.
