Meat distributed to Sherawa, al-Shahba camps' refugees

On the occasion of Eid al-Adha and to provide financial and moral support to Afrin people who were forced to displace their homes due to Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries’ aggression on the canton, the religious institution in Rojava and the Kurdistan Islamic community stood in solidarity with each other and allocated the sacrifices’ share of this year for the people of Afrin.

Each family in Berxwedan, Serdem and Afrin camps in al-Shahba area and in al-Shahba camp that is located in Sherawa district in Afrin canton have gotten 2 kg of meat.

On the other hand, sums of money have been distributed to more than 700 families from Afrin who are residing in the villages of al-Shahba district and Afrin canton, where the Kurdish Red Crescent, in coordination with the communes, took the responsibility of the distribution process.

In this context, the religious institution in Rojava and the Kurdistan Islamic community released a statement to the public opinion. The statement was read by the general supervisor Duran al-Hashemi in Berxwedan camp, and it was attended by dozens of Autonomous Administration institutions, the communes’ councils and co-chairs and the members of the Kurdish Red Crescent.

The text of the statement included,

"On behalf of the religious institution in Rojava Kurdistan, we came to the land of al-Shahba to provide financial and moral support to the people of Afrin who were persecuted by the practices of the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries.

We, in the religious institutions, condemn the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries’ attacks on Afrin, as well as the destruction of the infrastructure and the killing of hundreds of civilians and the forcible displacement of most of its population towards al-Shahba areas.

We appeal to all humanitarian and religious organizations in the world not to turn a blind eye to the suffering experienced by the people of Afrin within the camps and in the houses destroyed by IS in al-Shahba.

The people of Afrin resisted until the last breath against of the Turkish aggression on Afrin, and they are still resisting here in the camps in order to return home with dignity and freedom," al-Hashemi concluded.

After reading the statement, the meat was distributed by the Kurdish Red Crescent and the co-chairs of the communes to the residents who are living in the camps.
