Jabal Kizwan people demand concerned parties to support them

Jabal Kizwan or Jabal Abdul Aziz Mountains belong to Tel -Tamer area in al-Hasakah canton. There are 120 villages in which about 50,000 people live, while there are 72 communes in these villages. Jabal Kizwan is distinguished for its trees like terebinth or “Kizwan” in Kurdish and cotton planting. After Daesh occupied the area, large numbers of trees were cut by IS, forcing more than half of the population to displace from their villages, rainfall has declined over the eight past years which damaged crops, all these changes led to a number of problems.

Hawar news agency ANHA's reporters visited the area to learn about the problems people face, where parents complain mainly about shortage of drinking water, damaged roads and poor health services.

90% of the area's water is not suitable for drinking

The Co-chair of People's Municipality of Jabal Kizwan Saleh Madina Khalif said that life is slowly returning to the region after liberation from IS, but IS left behind them many problems. One of these problems is the shortage of drinking water. Considering the area is a desert, there is only drinking water in two places, by drilling for wells where water is not drinkable having bitter taste. Usually the people of the area secure drinking water from other areas through tanks. "We bring water from a distance of 70 km to the area. Due to the shortage of tanks, water does not reach the remote villages. They have to buy water, each barrel of water for 1,000 Syrian liras, there are two wells for fresh water in the area, which only fulfill the need of the surrounding villages."

Damaged roads by war, torrential rains

Among the problems, facing the residents is the problem of roads in the area. According to Khalif, many roads were damaged by the war, and a large part of the roads were damaged due to the floods caused by the summer rains. "All the roads connecting the north and the south of the areas of Jabal Kizwan, as well as the road leading to the cities of al-Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor are severely damaged. Another road completely damaged; Spi Zilam which connects about 12 villages with one another, even worse, these villages are not reachable. We are in People's Municipality of Jabal Kizwan we cannot solve these problems, because of the lack of the necessary machineries. We submitted a request on this subject to People's Municipality in Tel -Tamer, but we did not receive the response till now".

A health room exists, but void of doctors

The lack of clinics, pharmacies and doctors is also an important problem for Jabal Kizwan people. The municipality initiated the opening of a health room inside the municipality building, but there are no doctors in the area. The doctors who agree to work in the area are asking for heavy wages amounting to 400 thousand pounds per month due to the distance of the region. Jabal Kizwan area is faraway about 50 km from al-Hasakah city and 30 km from Tel –Tamar city which requires a long time for patients to access the hospitals may lead to the aggravation of the patient's condition, and the cost of access to hospitals is up to 6 thousand Syrian liras.

The Co-chair of People's Municipality Khalif appealed to the concerned parties in Autonomous Administration to provide the necessary support to solve the service problems suffered by Jabal Kizwan people.
