Lina Berakat: We need to find convergence, not difference

In an interview held by ANHA with the general coordinator of the Syrian Women's Council Lina Berakat during her participation in the third conference of the Syrian Democratic Council, and she said, "The events that are taking place are not only in the north and south of Syria but on the entire Syrian territories as serious changes took place recently such as the Turkish occupation of Afrin, the demographic change, agreements and the exclusion of an important aspect of the political equation, so that this conference was to be held in this historical and critical period in the history of Syria."

On the political visions of the Democratic Syria Council (MSD) which were read during the conference, Lina said, "MSD posed its political opinion and the solution’s mechanism for directing the train towards the right track, as for the political forces, parties and independent figures working to solve the Syrian crisis, they try to save the remaining people on this land to take their rights"

Lina added, "At the third conference of the Syrian Democratic Council, many issues also were put forward to amend and rotate all angles with all the forces existed on the Syrian land at this historic and important moment in an attempt to unify the views and move Syria towards a pluralistic, decentralized and democratic system.

we do not want to return to the central system which represents one color, one character and one component as Syria was characterized by pluralism and diversity, so it is a must to be directed towards pluralistic, democratic and decentralized Syria that gives all the components their rights, and can manage itself to avoid any problem in the future ."

Lina said about the Syrian-Syrian dialogue, "We must not forget that we are Syrians and we are indispensable to each other. We have to sit at the table of the dialogue. The dialogue must be Syrian-Syrian and a national dialogue that brings together all Syrians. We must also move away from the regional and international interests."

Lina Berakat pointed to the importance of overcoming the marginalization of the role of the Syrian women who were not allowed to play their role in the political field, but with the beginning of the revolution, women managed through their struggle to consolidate their presence in all fields."

The general coordinator of the Syrian Women Council Lina Berakat asked at the end of her speech the participation of women in the drafting committee of the new constitution not only as a consultative council for women, but as women as they have a specific percentage. We also demand women's rights constitutionally and guaranteeing them legally."
