Harvesting summer vegetables in al-Tabqa countryside started

The farmers of al-Tabqa northwestern countryside started harvesting summer vegetables amid high prices in the markets, due to the lack of quantity produced by the recent rains and the decrease in the water level of the dam as a result of water reservations by Turkey.

Farmers in the northwestern Jarniya village, which relies on agriculture for 60 percent because of its proximity to the Euphrates River, began harvesting summer vegetable crops.

The summer agriculture stepped back this year because of the Turkish state's continued seizure of the Euphrates River, which has been in its 8th month, leading to a drop in water levels. Most of the irrigation pumps have been out of service, not to mention rain and floods, and some crops have been infected with pests.

The farmer Ali al-Saleh from al-Jarniya village re-caused the increase in the prices of vegetables to damage to crops, turn of water by the Turkish state, in addition to delayed maturity of the crop due to bad weather in the recent period.

Saleh said "With the start of the harvest season and the collection in the sacks after washing and cleaning, we sell a quantity in the local markets and we ship the excess quantity to the rest of the areas."
