In the last two weeks, the observers of the agricultural movement have been watching the farmers in al-Tabqa area working hard in their fields from the moment of sunrise to harvest the wheat and barley crops, especially after the harvest was delayed due to the recent rains, especially those accompanied by dusty winds, which led to the bending of the ears, which were overloaded with moisture and dust.

The farmers attribute this delay in the region, especially in this year, to the inability of farmers to harvest the wet grain crops, which causes them to be damaged as a result of decay and insects that may later affect them after harvest.

According to some farmers, the crop in such cases is divided into two parts, the first one, which regains its strength after the drought of the ear and can be harvested by the special machine (harvest), but those that have taken a curved form force the farmer to use the primitive means like the sickle.

In view of the circumstances surrounding the farmer and his winter season, Democratic Civil Administration in al-Tabqa city has announced its intention to buy these crops at an encouraging price, preventing the exploitation of the product on the black market in a list issued and approved by Agriculture Committee beginning with 175 for the first and last elites for less than 170 S.Y

Agriculture Committee estimates the areas of wheat and barley cultivated in thousands of hectares. It is considered a large project in Sewdyia Kabira in the northeastern countryside of al-Tabqa, the most important of which is estimated at 16,000 hectares, followed by al-Salhbiya al-Sharqiya and Qarbiya lands in the eastern countryside of al-Tabqa with a similar area .

It is worth mentioning that the strategic crops that provide human food reserves, as well as the provision of animal fodder in al-Tabqa area has suffered several setbacks during the past years, the most important of which is the high prices of fertilizers and seeds during domination of Islamic State which fully drew quantities of fertilizers from local markets to be used in the manufacture of booby-traps. In addition to the drought and climate variability that have hit the region this year, which has been the subject of the World Food Security Organization (FAO), has warned several times over the past years and months, as well as the main causes of the decline in wheat and barley’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) this year due to Turkish state’s restraint of waters of the Euphrates for the seventh month successively.
