A fine artist whose subjects are derived from the works of the Euphrates environment, he embodies, through his sculptures and paintings, the history and originality of his environment. He was oppressed and arrested by IS mercenaries, but now he has returned to express his works in a freedom climate.

Fine artist Juma Saied al-Hamou, born in al-Raqqa 1968, began his interest in sculpture since the 1980s, where he began sculpting marble and black stone.

Al-Hamou did not study fine arts, besides studying at Electricity Institute, he was able to develop his talent to be a trainer of sculpture and anatomy at the Fine Art Center in al-Raqqa since 1989-1996.

He also worked in the management of some decoration companies and participated in many annual exhibitions of Syrian artists since 1988. He also participated in the first and second Badia (desert) Festival, and has many works in Arab and foreign countries.

Like all the people of al-Raqqa, the artist Juma al-Hamou suffered from oppression and suppression of IS mercenaries. He was arrested for his artworks. The mercenaries also destroyed their sculptures, confiscated them and smuggled some of them to Turkey.

After the liberation of al-Raqqa city, the Civil Council presented some of his sculptures in the inner courtyard of the Civil Council building, on 22 April this year, and his sculptures reflect the war and destruction that took place in al-Raqqa city, in addition to works that reflects the co-existence of the components, and drawing paintings dealing with the issues of al-Raqqa's women.

"I participated in many exhibitions in Syria and some Arab countries, team and individual exhibitions, my works were of black and white stone, and Italian marble," said the artist Juma during an interview with ANHA agency,

"I stopped working at the beginning of the entry of ISIS because they arrested me and broke all the sculptures and confiscated some of them, but after they get me out, I did my works in secret and buried them in the house."

The artist Juma is currently working on the completion of a memorial plaque, which is the image of the Public Relations Officer in al-Raqqa's Civil Council Omar Alloush, who was martyred by armed gangs, he is also working on the completion of a memorial tower of the remains of destroyed cars in al-Raqqa city.
