Iraqi anger after the Tigris’ drought, calls for boycott of Turkish, Iranian goods

The water level of the Tigris River in Baghdad and al-Mosul cities has decreased unprecedentedly that it is possible to cross the river on foot after the Turkish government announced the start of the filling of "Iliso dam, which was built on the river's source in Turkish territory, which was reflected directly on the river in the Iraqi side and the low level of water.

Meanwhile, the Iranian authorities cut the water of the "al-Zab al-Sageir" from al-Sulayimaniya province in Kurdistan region "again", causing a crisis for the water project in Daza citadel province in the governorate.

According to the announcement of the Dams Directorate in Kurdistan region, the Iranian action caused the crisis of providing drinking water.

The activists in the media expressed their anger at Turkey's "provocative" practices towards their neighbor Iraq, demanding their government to intervene urgently and end the drought in the Tigris River and to prevent the humanitarian disaster that has begun to loom in sight.

Others criticized the position of the Iraqi government to deal with the crisis, although Turkey began building the dam several years ago, without taking the necessary measures to face it.

It is scheduled that the Iraqi Representatives Council to hold on Sunday, an "emergency session" to discuss the water crisis, in the presence of agriculture and water resources ministers and foreign minister.
