“Attacks on journalism are part of Turkish brutality”

QAMISHLO- Journalists in Rojava-North Syria said that the Turkish state aims to obliterate the truth i.e. distracting the society from the voice of truth.

Pressure, obstacles, and threats are increasing on the Kurdish and opposing media, as the Turkish state has shut many media foundations like newspapers, news agencies, TV and radio channels, magazines and websites in 2016-2017, and have set guardians to shut them.

Ozgur Demokrasi newspaper and Gun printing establishment headquarters were stormed and seized by the security forces elements, and a guardian was set on them, thus the newspaper stopped and the current issue was not published, many workers also were arrested.

Publication resumed on websites

The Justice and Development Party having set a guardian, thus publication in Gun stopped, the Kurdish-released Welat newspaper stopped issuing despite enormous efforts, but no press accepted to print this newspaper fearing the Turkish state’s oppression, so the workers decided to publish on the websites.

Facing these brutal attack on the Kurdish journalism, some journalists in Rojava-north Syria expressed their opinion saying “The Turkish state aims by these attacks on the Kurdish media to control the Kurds and mute their voice, and distract the society from the truth.”

The society cannot be distracted from voice of truth

Avin Yousef, an editor of Ronahi newspaper explained that pressure is increasing on the free media for the sake of winning 2019 elections, saying “the Turkish occupying state is aiming by these attacks to obliterate the truth, as its major aim is distracting the society from the voice of truth, Erdogan is trying to hide the Turkish massacres and crimes committed against civilians in Afrin exposed by the journalists, but they would not surrender before such attacks, our target is revealing truth and these attack would never undermine our will.”

Each person is a journalist

Avin also added “Our people are undertaking the role of journalists, during all events that take place, they publish and make things clear to the community like journalists, this is a clear indication that attacks do fail.”

Avin Yousef, the editor in Ronahi newspaper concluded asserting they are continuing to do their work in making the voice of truth heard to the public opinion.

An administrative in the Ronahi newspaper Abdul Rahman Muhamad denounced the attacks on the free journalism saying “This is not the first time the Turkish brutality targeted the free journalism which is part and parcel of its policies to suppress the voice of truth.”

Turkey’s brutality manifested again

Abdul Rahman Muhamad noted that Erdogan through these attacks to distract the people from truth and turn it into tools, Muhamad added “From a legal point of view, Turkey has no right to put pressure on free journalism, Erdogan keeps repeating they are a democratic state, but the arrest of journalists and shutting the media foundations, shows again that the Turkish state is the most brutal state.”
