12 movements of ISIS cells recorded in NE, Syria during last September

Areas in the North and East Syria region witnessed intensified new activities by ISIS mercenary cells last September, ranging from bombings and armed attacks to attempts to smuggle ISIS families from camps and detention centers, reflecting the ongoing threat of ISIS in the region.

On September 1, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) repelled an attack launched by ISIS mercenary cells in the northern countryside of Raqqa province, killing two ISIS mercenaries and injuring three SDF fighters.

On September 2, the Internal Security Forces foiled an attempt to smuggle more than 30 family members of ISIS militants from al-Hol camp.

On September 15, the SDF thwarted an attack by ISIS mercenary cells in the town of Al-Bahra Al-Wusta east of Deir-ez-Zor, which resulted in five fighters attaining martyrdom and another being injured during the violent clashes that accompanied the prevention of the attack.

On September 19, the SDF repelled an attack by ISIS cells in the town of Muhamida in the countryside of Deir-ez-Zor canton, resulting in one fighter martyred and two others injured.

On September 22, the SDF confronted an ISIS cell attack in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, leading to the martyrdom of fighter Omar Al-Mousa during the confrontation.

On September 25, the SDF foiled an ISIS mercenary attack targeting a military point in the town of Al-Bahra Al-Wusta in the eastern countryside of Deir-ez-Zor, causing five fighters to be martyred and another injured.

On September 26, ISIS cells targeted an oil tanker on the road between Deir Ezzor province and Al-Jazira canton, causing material damage.

On September 27, the SDF repelled an ISIS cell attack on the town of Ibreha in the eastern countryside of Deir-ez Zor canton, resulting in four fighters martyred and one ISIS mercenaries killed.

On September 28, the SDF repelled an ISIS cell attack on the outskirts of the city of Al-Busayrah in the countryside of Deir-ez Zor, resulting in four fighters martyred.

On the same day, the Internal Security Forces arrested two ISIS mercenaries after they targeted a vehicle carrying members of their forces in the countryside of Deir-ez Zor canton.

On September 30, the military council forces of Hajin managed to arrest one of the ISIS cell leaders in the town of Dranj in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, following a clash that resulted in his injury and detention. The clashes led to the martyrdom of one SDF fighter and injuries to two others.

Overall, the 12 attacks during last September resulted in the martyrdom of 21 fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), injuries to 9 others, and injury to one civilian.

They also led to the deaths of 3 ISIS mercenaries, while the SDF and Internal Security Forces arrested 11 other mercenaries, including a leader.

Thus, the total number of ISIS cell attacks across various areas in the North and East Syria region has risen to 184 since the beginning of the year, most of which occurred in the countryside of Deir-ez-Zor canton.

Meanwhile, operations by the SDF and security forces against ISIS cells have increased to 70 since the start of this year, according to data and official statements monitored by our agency from both sides.

In August, ISIS mercenary cells launched 25 attacks on different locations in North and East Syria, resulting in 13 deaths, including fighters and civilians among them a tribal notable and a woman and injuries to 11 fighters. These attacks were met with 7 security operations by the SDF and Internal Security Forces, which resulted in the elimination of 3 mercenaries and the arrest of 74 others, including a leader.

According to observers and experts on extremist groups, these attacks demonstrate that ISIS has developed its tactics and become bolder in launching assaults; this means the mercenaries are trying to exploit the complex Syrian circumstances, ongoing tensions, and continuous mobilization against the North and East Syria region.
