Zerkan residents protest against rising fuel prices

Hundreds of residents of Zerkan took to the streets today in a protest against rising prices following the increase in fuel costs. The demonstration began in front of the city council and headed toward the Asayish center.

Participants chanted slogans demanding the reversal of the fuel price hike decision, stressing the need to improve living conditions and reduce the economic burdens weighing on citizens.

Upon reaching the Asayish center, the protesters observed a minute of silence, after which a protest statement was read in both Kurdish and Arabic by Dianna Mao, an administrator in the Zerkan Council, and Dalaal al-Hamid, the joint vice president of the council.

The statement noted that the increase in diesel prices had directly affected the cost of basic services, particularly bread and electricity, exacerbating the suffering of residents amid worsening economic and living conditions.

It called on the transitional government and executive bodies to take urgent measures to improve the economic and living situation, ensuring the protection of citizens and strengthening food and health security.

The statement affirmed that the demands raised by the protesters are legitimate, emphasizing the need to consider the specific circumstances of each region, particularly the Rojava Kurdistan areas.

The protest concluded with slogans calling for lower prices, improved living conditions, and a response to the demands of the residents.
