YRA commemorates sixth anniversary of free media martyrs

Saad Ahmad, Mohammad Rasho, and Dilan Olmaz were martyred on October 13, 2019, while Widad Aramji lost his life on October 10 of the same year, during the Turkish state’s invasion of Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî . A massacre was committed on October 13 when a civilian convoy—which included several journalists documenting the attacks—was deliberately targeted.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Council of Martyrs’ Families, colleagues, and friends of the martyrs.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the YRA, Benyad Jaziri stated: “Through the memory of these martyrs, we honor all martyrs of the free press. They followed the path of those who devoted their lives to revealing the truth and exposing genocidal plans before the world. With their cameras, they sought to show the reality of the attacks and aggression, and through that mission, they attained martyrdom.” Hussein Rasho, father of the martyred journalist Mohammad Rasho, said: “Today we mark the sixth anniversary of our righteous martyrs. We share our pain and pride with you and pledge to continue their path until their goals are fulfilled.”

Fellow journalist and Çira TV correspondent Zinar Jaafar added: “No words can truly express what our martyrs mean to us. As their comrades, we vow to uphold their legacy and protect the path they paved with their blood.”
