Women's Protection Units (YPJ) and People's Protection Units (YPG) fighters spoke to ANHA's agency on the occasion of International Women's Day, which falls on March 8 of each year.

The fighter in the Women's Protection Units, Jakjin Afrin, said: "We cherish March 8th. We in the YPG do not only defend the women involved in the revolution, but we also defend all women and seek to reach them. Women have been fighting against the oppression of the dominant man for many years, and thousands of women have been struggling." Today, they are fighting for their freedom and rising up against injustice.”

The fighter in the People's Protection Units, Rojhat Mamurek, congratulated all the women of the world on March 8 and continued his speech by saying: “In fact, this is a painful day. Women’s struggle and resistance in order to obtain their rights is the reason for declaring this day, as female pioneers and activists fought against the regime courageously. This made them constantly exposed to attacks, and the largest massacre against them occurred on March 8 against a group of female workers. It is a painful day, but at the same time it is the day in which the struggle reached its peak.”

The fighter in the Women’s Protection Units, Zilan Afrin, commented on this topic, saying: “This day is not only a day of celebration, but it can be defined as a day of struggle against the hegemony of men and the state. The enemy practices violence against women in various fields, so this day is considered a day of struggle and strengthening it against the power of the hegemonic powers.

The fighter in the People's Protection Units, Matian Hasakah, pointed out that the philosophy of leader Abdullah Ocalan had redefined the truth about women, their history, and their personality, and he continued his speech by saying: “The struggle has been strengthened, represented by the person of Kurdish women as martyrs: Azima, Aisha, Fidan, Cansiz and Noda, and has arrived.” To what it is today and its echo throughout the world, we congratulate all female fighters, resistance fighters and hardworking women in all fields and fields on March 8.”
