Young man from Homs dies under torture in Syrian Interim Govt.prisons

The family of the young man from Karam al-Louz reported his death under torture in one of the Interim Government’s detention centers after his forced disappearance for more than eight months, drawing renewed attention to the continued abuses in prisons reminiscent of the Assad regime’s practices.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated that the young man was arrested on January 31, 2025, at the al-Fakhoura checkpoint in Homs, where he was abruptly removed from his car before all contact with him was lost. Despite persistent efforts by his family, security agencies informed them that he had been transferred between the central prison and al-Balouna prison, without allowing visits or communication.

The family noted that authorities warned them against publicizing the case. Later, they received information confirming his death under torture and burial in a mass grave in the Tel al-Nasr area. His image was subsequently identified at al-Waer Hospital.

According to the Observatory, the number of detainees who died under torture in Interim Government prisons has risen to 59 since the beginning of this year, most of whom are from Homs province.
