Jeweler killed, son seriously wounded in armed attack in Al-Asharah

A jeweler was killed and his son sustained critical injuries after an armed attack carried out by unidentified assailants in the town of Al-Asharah, part of the Al-Mayadin area in Deir ez-Zor. The incident has once again drawn attention to the state of security chaos in regions controlled by Syria’s interim government.

Local sources reported that gunmen targeted Khalil al-Hassan al-Hammada, known as “Khalil al-Hedlat,” and his son as they were leaving their home. The two were subjected to a robbery during which the attackers opened fire, killing the father instantly, while the son was transported to a medical center in critical condition.

The identities of the attackers and the motives behind the assault aside from robbery remain unknown. Meanwhile, residents are calling on the relevant authorities to strengthen security measures and launch an investigation to uncover the circumstances of the incident.

Areas across Syria under the control of the interim government continue to witness daily crimes amid an ongoing security breakdown, with many cases recorded against unknown perpetrators.
