The women’s delegation from North and East Syria continued its European tour, holding a meeting today in St. Gallen, Switzerland, with parliamentarians from the Swiss Green Party and the Socialist Left Party.

Discussions centered on the status of women in North and East Syria and Syria overall, particularly in the period following the fall of the Ba’ath regime. Fundamental questions were raised about the challenges women face amid political and social transformations, and their role in building a more just and equal society.

During the meeting, the delegation emphasized the need for political support and strengthening dialogue among Syrians to find a solution to the Syrian crisis, while highlighting the importance of protecting women’s rights and implementing the provisions of the March 10 Agreement.

These meetings are part of a European tour that began on September 6, covering France, Germany, and Switzerland. During the tour, the delegation met with political, parliamentary, and women’s figures to discuss women’s issues, the humanitarian situation, the risks of ISIS resurgence, and ways to build a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria.

The delegation includes Amineh Omar, an administrator in the Women’s Council of North and East Syria; Mona Al-Youssef, spokesperson for the Syrian Women’s Council; Shahrzad Al-Jassim, spokesperson for the Women of Zenobia Assembly; Jian Hussein, a member of the Star Conference Coordination; and Georgette Barsoum, head of the Syriac Women’s Union. The delegation continues its ongoing European tour.
