Women’s delegation from NE Syria discusses women's empowerment in Paris

The women's delegation from the North and East Syria region continues its official tour of a number of European countries. Yesterday evening, it held a series of meetings in the French capital, Paris, which included the Alawite House, where Daniela Mitterrand visited, in addition to a meeting with the mayor of Paris, her deputy, and members of the city council.

During the Paris meetings, the current situation in Rojava and Syria in general was discussed, highlighting the women's revolution in North and East Syria, the gains women have achieved in all fields, and the challenges facing women amid the Syrian crisis.

The dialogue also addressed the threats facing women's rights, efforts to unify ranks and find solutions to the ongoing crisis, and ways to strengthen relations and support projects aimed at empowering women at various levels.

These meetings coincided with the third anniversary of the killing of the young Kurdish woman, Jina Amini, by Iranian authorities on September 16, 2022, under the pretext of "hijab." Participants in the meetings held up her picture to express solidarity with the "Women, Life, Freedom" uprising in Eastern Kurdistan and Iran, and to affirm continued support for women's struggle against oppression and discrimination.

The women's delegation's European tour began on September 6th and included several countries. During the tour, the delegation met with human rights and women's organizations and several members of the European Parliament.

The delegation includes Amina Omar, administrator of the Women's Council in North and East Syria; Mona Al-Youssef, spokesperson for the Syrian Women's Council; Shahrazad Al-Jassim, spokesperson for the Zenobia Women's Gathering; Jian Hussein, a member of the Star Conference Coordination Committee; and Georgette Barsoum, head of the Syriac Women's Union.
