Women's Council of NE Syria receives British delegation

The British delegation, which includes a group of parliamentarians and representatives of British political parties, visited the Women's Council of North and East Syria today, Thursday.

The visiting delegation includes Martin Round, the mayor of Madison, Dr. Karen Constantine, consultant and deputy chair of the Labour Group in the Kent County Council, Roger Lyons, former president of the Trade Union Congress, and Jasin Kaplan, who holds a master's degree in literature and is the director of Mid-Kent Aviation Company.

The delegation was received by members of the Kongra Star organization, the Syriac Women's Union, as well as representatives of civil society organizations and political parties at the diplomatic relations office of Kongra Star in the city of Qamishlo.

During the visit, discussions were held on the necessity of women's participation in drafting the new constitution of the country, the challenges and difficulties they face, the situation of displaced women from Afrin, Serê Kaniyê, and Tal Abyad/Girê Spî, and the attacks by the Turkish occupying state and its mercenaries on the region of North and East Syria.

The British delegation expressed its happiness in visiting the Women's Council and stated that they want to convey the voice of women in North and East Syria to the British people.

Meanwhile, Sterah Qasim, a coordinating member of the Women's Council of North and East Syria, pointed out the exclusionary and marginalizing policies followed by the Damascus government against women, stressing that this is "unacceptable" from their perspective.

Additionally, Ameen Osi, a member of the Committee for Relations and Democratic Political Agreements of Kongra Star, stated that Syrian women have proven themselves in all fields and that any political process that does not include women and all Syrian components will be incomplete.

For her part, Sabah Shabo, a coordinating member of the Women's Council, highlighted that the Autonomous Administration has granted Syriac women their rights and involved them in the decision-making process—something that the Damascus government has failed to do, as it marginalized all components, including the Syriacs. She emphasized that "the National Dialogue Conference does not represent the spectra and components of the Syrian people."
