Women arrested during protests in Eastern Kurdistan, Iran

Iranian authorities have launched a wave of arrests that targeted a Kurdish woman from Kermanshah in Eastern Kurdistan, alongside the transfer of 15 other women to Evin Prison, due to their participation in the protests.

Human rights sources reported that Iranian authorities arrested a Kurdish woman from the city of Kermanshah in Eastern Kurdistan, while 15 other women who took part in the protests were transferred to Evin Prison, according to Rudaw News Agency.

The “Voice of Kurdish and Iranian Prisoners” website stated that the arrested Kurdish woman is Mahsa Zarei. Iranian intelligence forces reportedly detained her at her workplace without presenting any judicial warrant, before transferring her to an unknown location, raising concerns about her fate.

The same website noted that during the recent protests in Eastern Kurdistan and other Iranian regions, 15 women participating in the demonstrations, some of whom were injured, were arrested and sent to Evin Prison in Tehran.

It was also reported that female students at several Iranian universities continue to organize protests within campus grounds, raising the slogan “Women, Life, Freedom,” while simultaneously taking part in street demonstrations to support the protesters’ demands. Among the universities where these activities took place are Allameh University, Shahroud University, and Sharif University.
